It could be said that kids' praise music is often a hit-and-miss affair. I, personally, always think cringe with a capital C. This type of thing is usually either sweet or cute, or both. I took a huge gulp and prepared for the worst. It is sweet and cute, but the kids' sincerity and love for God shines through. And there's no doubt that some of these kids sure can sing! What is less appealing are the staged (and sometimes saccharin) talkie bits in between songs which spoil the whole album. "Best Friend" gets the thumbs up if only for the rap halfway through. Kids catch the blues with "Standing On The Rock", a swinging melody that will get even the most reluctant tot to rock. One thing that does stand out is the maturity of the songs and the kids' powerful voices. This may be the album parents hope their kids will listen to. I suspect that lots of mini musos are already into more adult sounds. They'll probably either hate or love this. However, it's a useful and hip stepping stone for kids into more fun in praise and worship.
