Imagine the soulful harmonies of The Four Tops, add a Stevie Wonder groove, some of Van Morrison's string and horn arrangements, and mix in a bit of Motown. You could end up with something a bit like The Franks. "Lies" is their debut single, showcasing the trio's vocal and instrumental talents. The lyrics, being about a bad relationship aren't exactly encouraging, but are still real-life enough. It's great to hear real vocals delivered with style, energy and character, though Kaleb's lead goes over the top on the growl. "Heart On Fire", the so-called B-side, is more sensitive, while the bonus live track hints at the fun party-band quality of the group's live shows. Honest, good, fun music: The Franks are ready to make their mark.
