The Eden Prophecy, aka duo Damon Newman and Paul Howarth, make a move towards the progressive side of rock with a collection of 15 pieces which may even have the words "concept album" screaming through them. But a selection of interesting songs is consistently let down on the production side of the album. The vocals are often far too low in the mix to be decently heard, and some of the recording shows a roughness that does not always successfully rise above the quality of a home demo tape. Some tracks do shine despite production problems notably "Gateway To The Stars (Part 1)" and "Muse" while "The Future Has Already Been Written" and "The Soft Machine" move to a direction which could only be described as menacing funk (think Red Hot Chili Peppers). The talent is there, it's just the studio resources that are needed.
