Stereo Deluxx reel out quality hi-fi pop rock which is hooky, sharp and accessible. Led along by the alluring voice of Stacey Tiernan, this three-piece isn't a million miles from the Cardigans or, in their darker moments, Garbage. Acid jazz, hi-hat shattering groove rock and piano ballads (the schmaltzy "Trapped" is the album's low point) all get a look in without ever knocking the group from their commercial pop platform, most effective on the shining title track. And therein lies the challenge. Will Stereo Deluxx stick to their safe sound and limited lyrics and guarantee themselves success in the youth CCM market? Or will they push forward their artistic boundaries (possibly risking all hopes of mass acclaim) and pin themselves to the spiky leftfield rock or dancy edge they hint at throughout, proving themselves to be true innovators rather than talented imitators. Let's hope it's the latter. In the meantime, enjoy this accomplished CD.
