It's easy to hear. . . and see. . . why Infinity Music have signed Stephen. His music is snappy pop rock of the Stephen Curtis Chapman kind while he has the kind of striking good looks that seem a prerequisite for a Nashville company recording contract. His compositions are often vertically directed and the bubbly pop rocker "All About You" and the mid tempo "Glory Glory" would fit into any praise and worship set. Less stereotypical lyrically is "The Door Is Open", an effective take on the Prodigal son story with a particularly good bridge which goes, "He picked up the phone when he got to the station/His Daddy said wait 'cause he's comin' right round/And this ole boy never seen that ol' Ford come a'racin'/Like the day his Daddy claimed his lost boy was found." Production throughout by Doug Beiden is pretty good, without being riveting. Also, CCM hitmaker Pam Thum duets with Stephen on the song "Spirit Of God". Will Stephen become a major CCM star or drop quickly from view? Only God knows. What I can say is that he's a well above average talent with songs of faith worth listening to.
