St John's Woodbridge has a number of talented songwriters writing both performance and congregational songs and they decided to record eight of them to further the church's outreach to the local community. Even without the background on the songs given in the sleevenotes it is plain to hear that the songs come from the heart. The songwriting varies in quality and for the most part appears to be what you would expect from those in the early stage of their songwriting career - a bit weak theologically in places and with a tendency to stumble into cliché. The vocals here are occasionally a bit rough too and while we're about it there's some pretty poor production, particularly on the guitar led songs, that makes the project sound like a demo recorded in a church hall. A shame.
