The first track on this German outfit's debut, "Tremormaker", melds rock guitar riffs with discotheque beats and a surprising trumpet solo. The lyrics are similarly quirky, packing a hard-hitting message while playing a little casually with end-rhyme. Lead singer Ed Einseidler, once a member of the fondly remembered Normal Generation?, has a voice reminiscent of a certain school of English worship leaders (several of whom he cites as influences), and indeed most of the songs found here are worship songs. However, their lyric and melodic complexity make them unlikely to suit a congregational setting. What this album lacks in conventional beauty, however, is more than made up for by the naked determination and distinctive congruence in the instrumental work. And the message, which soon emerges as the foundation of the album, is undeniably relevant and to-the-point. Anyone looking for music that fuses elements of rock and dance and theology that goes deeper than the usual evangelical slogans will be delighted by the unusual arrangements and edified by the unflinching reminder of fundamental truths.
