This Swedish gospel choir formed back in 1993 and have released two studio sets, 'Magnify Jesus' in 1997 and 'God Is With Us' in 2000. 'Live At Stockholm South' is Source Of Joy's first live album and they have chosen to record a mixture of their most popular songs mixed in with cover versions of familiar gospel favourites from other artists. So you get a choir version of "Shackles" which must surely have become the "Oh Happy Day" of the modern generation! And there's a selection of songs from the usual suspects, Kirk Franklin, Richard Smallwood, Shirley Caesar and Percy Bady. It's always going to be difficult to match the originals so I am glad that there is so much original material here. Two highlights are the live version of "God Is With Us" which powerfully closes the set and the joyful choir performance of "Party In Heaven". Blonde gospel? You bet but these guys hold their own.
