Coming at ya straight out of Bolton we have Slide, a seven-piece who deliver guitar-driven worship with original songs written by their guitarist Mark Underhill. The seven tunes here all run along at a pace with the exception of "Breathe" that is a very mellow acoustic number. Track six, "Thank You", sees Linda Reid taking the lead on a distinctly Bangles-esque groove. Slide have been together a long time and have taken part in numerous events (especially the last couple of Youth Alive conferences) as well as leading worship in their congregation. Their sound hangs together well and I found myself thinking about only American bands from the ‘80s to compare them with (The Cars, The Hooters etc.) and that's not meant as a put down. This CD suffers a bit from the curse of the demo budget but they are edgy in a way that most current worship albums aren't. If you're looking for a pointer to fresh things both musically and lyrically then fire up that Internet Explorer and flail on over to their website.
