The California-based Sleeping Giant have pushed the boat out with 'Sons of Thunder' but unfortunately do not quite manage to make it musically. Lyrically however, they are stronger than before and manage to cover topics such as homelessness ("The Streets Don't Lie"). It is the band's lyrics which once again push them higher than they really should be. Initially interesting riffs unfortunately fail to hold the listener and a song like "The Army Of The Chosen One" will simply bore all but the most undemanding metal head. Once again however the lyrics written by Thom Green ensure the band don't descend to complete mediocrity. Possibly the strangest yet most satisfying part of the album is the final track, "He Will Reign" which personally I assumed would be your typical long metal outro track with some weird samples. But no! Sleeping Giant have in fact written and recorded one of the most passionate and heartfelt worship songs that this reviewer has heard for a very long time which is well worth a listen by pretty much anybody. More writing of this standard would have greatly enhanced the album.
