Unleashed rather than released by Rottweiler Records and Nordic Mission, this brutal black metal set from Sweden takes no prisoners. From the outset every element has the sense of being on steroids. Rat-a-tat drums are relentless in their velocity and attack whilst guitars scythe through the onslaught. Although many elements of the music have been heard before, think Watain and Immortal, this four-piece play some hooky grooves to bring their sound up to date and provide the melody that is lacking in the gurgling vocals that scratch and burble throughout. The title track translates as combative and opens the album at light speed. The tracks come thick and fast, pulverising the listener with a wall of sheer noise. "Do What Thou Wilt" has a much more brooding and menacing feel to it, but still manages to feel brutal. It is not long, however, until speed returns with the hardcore feel of "Goatwhore". To match the music, the lyrics which can be deciphered are equally uncompromising and Christ centred. This is an album full of drama and this drama is boosted by some crisp production that drags what could become a muddy growl into an edgy, challenging listen. If extreme metal is your bag, Skald In Veum have produced a credible offering of complexity that sticks true to its genre.
