Just the music for Christian guest houses who ask you to go and relax with them. Classical guitarist Roger Hudson plays 14 well-known hymns, accompanied by a keyboard wash. The definition of ambient music is ‘background music used to create an atmosphere’. Though what kind of atmosphere Roger creates is a subjective matter. The simple guitar and keyboard could be wearing to some but to my parents it could be the music of heaven itself. It sounds as though the engineer chose not to use close-up mics for the recording of the guitar; this can give the recording of the guitar an ambient feel but also lose its ability to cut through. In an age when we all want Hi-Fidelity sound, ambient micing has its draw backs, though the playing itself is very well executed. The guitarist’s hope is that the music will be of spiritual inspiration and comfort to the listener.
