I took advantage of our day of summer to listen to this, the latest addition to the budget price series of instrumentals 'Simplicity' on a Walkman in my garden basking in a hot Mediterranean-style heat wave. Trammell Starks has a distinctive keyboard style that breathes new life into such standards as "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Rock Of Ages", "Blessed Assurance" - do you get the picture? Twelve tracks in total on which Trammell tickles the ivories, the high notes creating the illusion of a fast flowing, crystal clear spring stream bubbling with vitality. It's amazing what a touch of sun to a reviewer's head can do. I had the honour of reviewing the first of this series which featured the same musician on piano alone; and volume 11 he adds dreamlike touches to the pieces by way of the organ. Trammell has toured as keyboardist with such notables as Peabo Bryson, Roberta Flack, Jennifer Holliday and Patti Labelle; this album may be one for the hardcore "instumentos" but I would not be adverse to travelling in a car or lift with it playing in the background.
