Christmas albums have a tendency to get a bit stereotyped, but this album from the Nashville CCM hitmakers manages to avoid the worst excesses but still have a jolly feel. The opening Bible reading from the Charlie Brown cartoon set the scene nicely flowing into a folk rock romp "What A Glorious Night". The neo doowoop version of "White Christmas" is effective though it has to be said that its arrangement is lifted straight from a Drifters '50s classic in the same way that Art Garfunkel once copied the Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes For You". The album intersperses well known favourites with self-written Christmas songs. "Have Yourself A Merry Christmas" and "Silent Night" both get sensitive versions but the highlights are the yuletide originals. "Hey Moon" with its minimal accompaniment, catchy tune and clever perspective and the title track with its infectious rhythm are both standout tracks. A well above average Christmas album that will be played for years to come.
