Scottish singer Sara McGeachy describes her debut album as "a variety of contemporary worship, country and traditional gospel with a hint of classic musicals" and it's clear from the outset that she has the talent to cover a number of different styles with confidence. Having performed with the likes of the National Youth Choir of Scotland and the longstanding Celebration Choir, McGeachy is at ease performing new country style songs like "Something In The Water" and "Jesus Take The Wheel" - both Carrie Underwood hits - alongside much-covered musical numbers like "Over The Rainbow" and "I Dreamed A Dream". Whilst the content of the whole release is underpinned by McGeachy's Christian faith, lush interpretations of the old hymn "It Is Well" and Lenny LeBlanc's "Above All" make sure the message of salvation is delivered with impact alongside more up to date material like Francesca Battistelli's "Giants Fall". McGeachy has opted for a fairly straightforward and unostentatious vocal performance and, whilst she is certainly an accomplished vocalist, the combination of this and the choice of over-familiar material does mean that 'Stronger' does not stand out from the crowd as much as it should. However, the closing track - a largescale version of the Stuart Townend classic "In Christ Alone", complete with choir et al - sees the singer finally let loose and it's pretty stunning when that happens.
