This latest live recording from the annual youth event, organised by the Newfrontiers stream of churches, held at Norfolk Showground, features two songs from Matt Redman's latest album. "Here For You" (sung by Simon Brading) is a great opener and "10,000 Reasons" (sung by Jordan Dillon) is fast becoming a classic. Bethel's "One Thing Remains" makes an appearance, cementing its place in the collective consciousness of UK worshippers. Of the new songs, "No One Better" (penned by Brading and Jules Burt) stands out as a highlight: its soaring melody is backed by a refreshingly strong and edgy guitar part. "We Are Yours" is also a cut above the average worship fare, as is Burt's "Devotion" though its intro sounds disconcertingly like the start of Scissor Sisters' "Don't Feel Like Dancing". The only real weak point is "Christus Victor" - a football chant style chorus of "who are ya, who are ya." is a little too much. The parallels with Soul Survivor are obvious and this set shares two tracks with Soul Survivor's 2011 live recording as well as taking the same kind of musical approach. It doesn't quite reach the heights of 'We Are The Free' but all in all this is a great album with catchy melodies and hooks and a high degree of musicality from those involved. In future though, it would be good to see Newday develop a more original sound that would set it apart from other youth events.

As the successor to Stoneleigh and Revive, Newday has some big boots to fill. But the New Frontiers key youth event manages to do more than that. With over 6,500 young people worshipping together this summer, We Are Yours captures all that was great about the event.

With a bunch of new songs from the New Frontiers movement - as well as some from Matt Redman’s latest album 10,000 Reasons - all led by Simon Brading, Jordan Dillon, Jules Burt and Sam Cox, We Are Yours is a valuable and engaging resource.
