This three song EP is the first release from Devon-based rock band Sacred Assembly. It showcases a band with a knack for simple, bouncy pop-rock and an obvious heart for sharing the good news of God in a way that's not too in your face. Sadly it also displays some serious shortcomings that the band will need to iron out in the future. Opener "21st Century" is the best of the set with its simple, upbeat chord progressions matched by surprisingly clever lyrics sung from God's perspective as he is edged out of people's hearts by technology and soulless modern lifestyles. It's a decent song only slightly hampered by some timing issues in the bridge and a dull chorus that just repeats the title over and over. "Light" is where the EP really starts to run into problems vocally. The main singer is definitely stretching himself with those high notes and the harmonies in the chorus are awkwardly off-key. It's a shame since it's a strong song with a lovely melody and an impressive guitar solo, but in its current state it's pretty hard to listen to. "Running To You" ends the EP with an ultra bouncy sing-along that would probably make a great kids worship song if it weren't for more pitching issues and a rather sloppy ending. Sacred Assembly's EP does have a ragged, rough-n-ready charm to it and there's definitely potential in the band's songwriting, but their playing and singing could definitely use some polish.

Didn't have the same issues with voice and timing that your reviewer seemed to have. Loved this EP.
