Rosetta are a band hailing from Lansing in Michigan, USA and previously released an okay EP under the unlikely name Trip The Witch. Now it seems like the band have got serious and tightened up their game for this new release. With a new sound and the new name, this is a new start for them and 'Eternity' is strong enough to get me excited. This could be categorised as intelligent rock music with its moody ambience washing over you in a way that is similar to another great American indie, Jacobstone. Poetic lyrics with the band's Christian heart bubbling inconspicuously through at different points are married to some great vibes. Standouts for me are "Vera", which builds with some intensity, and the different guitar textures and breathy vocals of "Ansur-iiikov". The arty approach (just what are some of these songs about?) may put off some people because this isn't obvious but I personally like pondering the poetry and reading into the album my own meanings. Their speciality seems to be creating music that weaves and dips through different emotional responses from a musical whisper to a pounding guitar scream. Since the band manage to avoid sounding as obvious as anything coming from Nashville, it seems like their aim is to get out into the local clubs rather than float in the CCM scene. This album is strong enough for them to warrant attention.
