With a tidal wave of single releases proving an ever-increasing challenge to Cross Rhythms with its "we'll audition anything (within format) that's released" policy, it still gives the indomitable CR team pleasure when an "unknown" independent artist makes it to the heady heights of the CR playlist. This is what has happened to Robyn, a singer/songwriter from Albuquerque, New Mexico. As it turns out, Robyn is no gauche newcomer but in fact has had several notable achievements including singing the USA's national anthem at the 2004 Democratic Convention through to having won an award at the New Mexico Music Awards. Nothing, however, quite prepared me for this gem of a single. Veteran producer Sean Hill introduces the song with a flourish of acoustic Spanish guitar before it crunches into a teeth-rattling pop rock rhythm on a catchy song which suggests that whatever our problems we should dance them out, hands in the air, praising God. Particularly effective is the "Hey! Hey! Hey! Dance it out!" breakdown. Robyn now has an EP 'Smile' out Stateside. Can't wait to hear that.
