The skill in creating instrumental music is to create something that engages the listener without becoming aural wallpaper. Robert Hood has created his instrumental material with a loving care that forces the listener to engage. These pieces seem to be more about vibe and groove than melody. As composer, producer, performer and arranger he creates a selection of grooves and loops with mesmerising effect and then places layer upon layer of synths to create something that combines elements of progressive, contemporary jazz and occasionally dance music. This is seriously good and Hood is going about his business following the example of his Creator, making creative music that is beautiful, complex and challenging.
