This latest offering from husband and wife duo Rob And Gilly Bennett had such great potential. (So from that you can guess that it didn't live up to it!) An album of 12 beautiful and well known hymns, including "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "The Old Rugged Cross", all performed on the classical guitar. Bliss you would suppose. You would suppose wrong. From the first hymn ("Jesus Christ Is Risen Today") this album was a soporific listening experience. Don't get me wrong, Rob And Gilly's playing is of a very high standard, but couldn't they have upped the tempo slightly? If they had played any slower they would have stopped! I don't mean to say there should have been a techno version of "Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace", but just enough extra bounce to convey the joy these hymns were meant to express. If you are a fan of Rob And Gilly and have been blessed by them in the past then perhaps you will find something here. Okay for background music maybe. However, for me it never takes off.
