This 10-track, 45-minute collection of self-penned, acoustic guitar-based testimony and worship songs from a Manchester-based songsmith demonstrates a number of the strengths and weaknesses commonly seen in many personal recording projects. The strengths include the fact that there is a freshness to the lyrical and melodic ideas delivered, to the language and wording of the songs and the imagery invoked, and the approach taken in general to what is, when all is said and done, an extremely well-visited subject. The primary weakness is the fact that there is little apparent effort to explore the lyrical subject matter in any great depth. In essence, Gregory sings the songs he has written (and some of them are very nice and, one senses, could be excellent with more work). But as they are presented here there is little sense of deep personal commitment or passion to them. This collection contains much that is pleasant, but in an age where so much music is available that's unlikely to draw too many purchasers.
