Ever since the seminal 'Richard Smallwood Singers' album emerged onto the market, this soulful team have clocked up a series of blistering releases, which nimbly straddle the more 'traditional' sounds of black music history and the new move towards contempo­rary gospel (funky rhythm tracks et al). The corner­stone of their sound has been Richard, who composes thoroughly catchy songs (though often pretty light on lyrical content) and has an intuitive ability to find top quality female singers (a seeming prerequisite for US gospel success).
