After a couple of well-received albums on Essential Records, it looked like Nashville-based Southern rock outfit the Rhett Walker Band had called it a day a couple of years back after announcing their premature demise on Facebook. Happily, the Grammy-nominated group have reformed to release an eponymous six-track EP of songs that highlight the grittier aspects of faith to the backdrop of Walker's Springsteen-like vocals (uncannily similar at points) and his band's general musical excellence. The upbeat stomper "Say Hello" acts as an invitation to the listener to try Jesus and paves the way for an all-too-brief collection of pieces that ooze confidence, verve and class. Swampy blues numbers like "Peace In The Family" and "Love Done" find the band in what is arguably their natural habitat and may well be the pick of the bunch here thanks to Walker's gravel-soaked vocals and the respective thundering guitar and drum work of Jerry and Miles McPherson. Elsewhere, the arresting "Murderer" puts a fresh spin on what it means to have Christ die for us before the lighter "Heavenly Home" closes a top class EP from this thankfully resurrected band.
