The Texas-based rapper/producer made a bit of a misjudgment with his 2017 album 'The Paragon', releasing it under his real name Greg Cooks and in so doing confused his fan base, particularly as he largely dropped God-references on that project. But now Puntin's back with his original recording persona and some raps-of-faith. Standouts are "Hater Free (ftg Von Won"), where the emcee adds his sure touch to the haunting cut where the song hook "As long as I have grace on my side/I know that I can make it hate free", the hypnotic "Run It Up" (or "run it oop" as it goes on the sung hook) and "Shine On (ftg G.A.V.)", a rapid-tongued expression of the frustrations of the reality of waiting and waiting for the divine breakthrough. Maybe there are a few too many uses of the vocoder on 'Legacy' and although there are 11 tracks this is really a mini-album, with a total length of 30 minutes. But there's no doubt, the skilled emcee and the guest rappers he's working with make an engaging, if not a brilliant, hip-hop set.
