The second Prayerworks album 'Breathe' was reviewed in the last Cross Rhythms and I agree with everything The Rimmer said, save I'd have put it in our Ambient/Meditational section rather than Pop. This one is equally good. Haunting, restful, at times eerily beautiful music performed by a bunch of masterful Australian musicians (Jeff Crabtree, keys; David Holmes, vocals; Andrew Naylor, bass and Richard Fowler, drums) who apparently go into the studio with no songs or plans, merely a desire to pray together and see what develops musically. Later, vocalists come in to add their spontaneous contributions then the whole thing is mixed and repackaged. What could have been vacuous self-indulgence is in fact spine tinglingly deft musical inventiveness. If you're disillusioned with production line music these Australians will lead you to pastures new.
