Pillar's classic first album here gets re-mastered and is now packaged with an excellent bonus live DVD and should prove a treat for fans and newcomers alike. On its first release in 2000 the album became a major Christian music hit and Dove Award winner. Now it has been fully remixed by high profile producers Mudrock (Godsmack) and Rich Costey (Audioslave, RATM) and momentarily had top record label backing in the States. In its fresh incarnation 'Fireproof' is the sound of now, good quality "peas and carrots" nu-metal with some ferocious guitar work, gritty raps and, like on the anthemic "Tonight", glorious, radio friendly hooks. One thing that sets them apart from mainstream acts like P.O.D. is that despite being boisterous, their vocals are clear and their meaning does not require any kind of decoding. This is summed up gloriously in the out set of penultimate track 'Indivisible' where lead vocalist Beckly repeatedly bellows the words "IN GOD WE TRUST!" Despite not being the most innovative hard rock album in recent memory (although if you consider it was first recorded four years ago, it might be just that!) 'Fireproof' is a thoroughly enjoyable and well crafted record. Pillar deserve the opportunity to bring their message to a widest possible audience.
