LA Symphony are the most creative hip hop crew in Christendom though their ongoing dispute with Squint Entertainment means that we probably won't get to hear the undeniable proof of my assertion for a while yet. In the meantime, Symphony member Pigeon John breaks cover to release a solo CD that is packed with variety, creativity and poetry. Taking in a pile of different subjects and employing different beats and rhythms, Pigeon John takes on a musical journey that includes a visit to the complexities of making relationships with the opposite sex ("The Chase") and a description of a "Rap Contest". Highlights for me include "Passion" which also features Tapwater and is built around the famous intro drum and guitar figure of Paul Simon's "Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover". Meanwhile fellow LA Symphony member Joey The Jerk joins him for "Payroll Professionals", an observation that these guys haven't yet hit the big time money wise! At the other extreme, he's got his tongue firmly placed in cheek for "I'm The Best In The World" while simultaneously putting some of the least tasteful elements of rap in perspective. 'Clueless' is anything but.
