Debut worship album from Australian Phil Baquie, pronounced 'Buh-kwee', in case you were wondering, Phil sings "there is no canvas to contain you, no lyric to explain you", in opening track "I Desire You", and then goes on to attempt it anyway. The result is a collection of songs that is both personal, and familiar and immediate at the same time. Obviously musically gifted, Baquie has an accessible pop-rock style that sits well with the joyous album highlights "I Desire You", "I Fall" and "Gloria", but he can also do more introspective songs like the acoustic "Hold Me Jesus". If the album has a weakness, it is in the lyrics, which tread well-worn ground and have a tendency to veer into cliché every now and again. However, such is the strength of his melodies and arrangements you'll probably find yourself singing along by the end of each song.
