In the early 1970s, Petra started out on a quite remarkable journey. 33 years, 20 albums, almost 10 million CD sales, and numerous line-up changes later and the American heavy rock outfit finally called it a day at the end of 2005. This final release marks the end of an era, and was recorded live on the Tennessee leg of their farewell tour in October last year, featuring hits spanning Petra's four decades of existence. "All About Who You Know" (taken from final studio album 'Jekyll and Hyde') sets the pace with chunky rock riffs to rival the likes of White Heart and Aerosmith; while Bob Hartman, John Schlitt and co hit top form to continuously churn out an entire set of immaculately performed anthems. "Amazing Grace" ('Revival', 2001) is a clever, modern rock adaptation of the famous hymn, and "Creed" leaves the listener in no doubt as to exactly what it is that Petra have stood for all these years. The second half of the concert features an acoustic set with guest appearances from former members Greg X Volz and John Lawry, as well as impressive extended keyboard and guitar solos, highlighting their indisputable musical talent. The catchy hooks of "Beyond Belief" and climax track "He Came, He Saw, He Conquered" bring the album to a rousing close and effectively draw the curtain on a band who were pioneers of Christian rock. Petra's brand of hard rock may not be to everyone's liking, but whether your cup of tea or not there is no denying they are very good at what they do, and this release is a must-have memento for any Petra fan.
