'Until We See' is the debut solo album by Peter Hicks, co-founding guitarist of India-inspired worship band Aradhna. Peter describes this album as "a collection of songs about finding his way, sometimes with the light of truth and sometimes on his own through the dark." He communicates these thoughts in the opening track "Calcutta": "Now I return through the darkness, stumbling over ground I never knew/But for the beacon in the distance I would be lost/But for the light in your window I'd wander the fields of an unforgiving love." Musically the style is completely different from Aradhna, even though Chris Hale and Travis Mcafee both appear. For this project Peter returns to his love of rock music and the album contains some wonderful musical interludes with guitars, drumming and sax which compliment the deep thinking of his lyrics. "Always Been" has a great guitar solo and the instantly recognizable Chris Hales sings a haunting lament in the background. "Hello My Love" is a gentle love song but I also loved the more melancholy "Everything Will Burn". There is an eclectic mix of sounds on "Sun Shines Cold", with a psychedelic intro merging into jazz with a sax solo by Nikolai Panov which moves to rock and a poppy beat to fade out. "You Love Me Here" tells of Peter's search for Christ with some beautifully honest lyrics. "Technicolor Fire" is one of the songwriter's favourites as he feels he was able to capture some of his journeying from confusion and fantasy into truth both musically and lyrically. All the songs are deeply contemplative and may take a few plays to fully connect but this album will definitely grow on you. With new songs already written, I look forward to seeing how Peter's music develops.

I've had the privilege of attending Peter's concerts with Aradhna over the years, and I listen to their albums often. His humble yet assertive presence in the band is inspiring. That said, I have been even more impressed with his solo debut album "Until We See" which is perhaps one of the most introspective, broody and divinely haunting albums I've heard, and reveals much more about the artist. The critics need to revisit this would-be acclaimed album, on the same stage as Peter Gabriel's Last Temptation of Christ tracks and Dave Matthews work.

This album has been very influential in my life - Peter's realm of lyrical and musical sensitivity and originality, in Western music, is unparalleled. I recorded most of the drum tracks on this album - it was an honor to work with Peter and Travis. An amazing experience of music - I encourage all who read to check it out.
