Having grown up with music, Texan singer/songwriter Paul started his musical career with an EP at age 18. Now 21 he has released his first album and has done a bit of a Mike Oldfield on it by playing most of the instruments. The songs have plenty of passion and vibrancy and provide a great showcase for Paul's compositions accompanied by plenty of jangly guitars, full bodied strings and soothing harmony lines. There is also a nice mixture of uptempo rocky numbers mixed with reflective ballads - quite reminiscent of Fair's 2006 'The Best Worst Case Scenario' in sound and feel. Paul and his dad handle production and it is pretty good overall - particularly the standout "Constant" - but there are the odd occasions where the vocals get a little thin and harsh on some of the quieter songs. This does not really detract from what is a great début album and Paul is definitely an artist to keep watching. I'm sure there is loads more to come.
