Paul Critchley is a singer, songwriter and worship leader based in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, and since 1997 he's ministered all over the UK and worldwide in a variety of ways, from prayer conferences and training sessions to gigs with Ishmael and leading worship at Kingdom Faith camps. His style is keyboard driven with an acoustic feel, he writes all his own songs and it's straightforward vertical worship. Production is fine, Paul's voice is accurate and the songs, whilst rather one paced, are free of the clichés that are endemic in much grassroots worship stuff. However, the big problem for me is the female backing singer; her vocals don't do a lot to enhance the material, she's in unison with Paul most of the time and often fails to blend in when she does try to harmonise. I've found sometimes that studio worship albums don't accurately represent the ability of the performers when compared to a live ministry and that's true here. In a church or celebration Paul is a sensitive and powerfully anointed lead worshipper. Perhaps next time Paul should go for a live album next time.
