Paper Horizon are a three piece from South Wales featuring guitar, drums and. . . get this. . . violin. The opener, "Where You Are", starts sparsely with plucked guitar and soulful violin before the drums gently enter and Lawrence's gruff vocals passionately deliver the emotional lyrics seeking to be where God is. "Constellation" picks up the pace and increases the use of Gaelle's vocals to strengthen the lyrics. "Nothing" continues the tempo increase but of all the songs this joyous romp is a bit let down by the arrangement and production with the vocals swamped by instruments, particularly the violin being too up in the mix. "Breathe" is then a breath of fresh air, with a much cleaner arrangement of predominantly guitar and violin with harmony vocals delivering the simple heartfelt lyrics. The closing track, "Wide Open Spaces" builds a wonderfully wide open space that the song then fills out in a nice climax to the EP. A pretty good introduction and I am sure we will be hearing more from these South Welsh musicians.
