It’s very exciting to see initiatives like Overtone’s where young musicians go into school rooms and assembly halls with an uncompromising Jesus message. Schools work is not for the spiritually faint hearted and these guys, and the York Schools & Youth Trust, deserve our prayers and support. So what of he music here? Well, hardly surprisingly considering the huge success of the Manchester musicianaries, most of the cuts here bear more than a slight resemblance to The Tribe with some boomingly rhythmic programming from Matt Osgood and lots of frantic rapping followed by haunting vocal hooks. I liked the single “More Than Heaven” (see CR79) and I enjoyed the energy kicked up on “Sykophantik” and the slight bandwithnoname vibe of “No Compromise”. Nothing too groundbreakingly original, then. But Overtone’s zeal for the Lord comes through loud and clear.
