The last from Phil and Brenda is back to the slush over production of its predecessors that the husband-and-wife duo departed for the rockier 'Live In Memphis' album last year. Now its back to a formulae of soul ballads arranged for maximum MOR appeal and up tempo numbers full of sassy guitar riffs and funky slapped bass but which often sound slightly contrived. A number of these tracks sound OK in themselves and Brenda is a capable vocalist but somehow this suffers from precisely the same problems as much contemporary 'soul' music - it's bland baby so that by the time they do cut loose - like on the call-and-response vamp on "We Walk By Faith" its too late. And Phil's latest glutenous romantic ballad "I Do (Promise To Love You)" is cringe-worthy.
