In the '70s this top black gospel choir had recorded for RCA Victor and Buddah but as the '80s dawned they'd signed with Christian label Myrrh. This was their second release on the label and was produced by Benny Diggs and Al Green (presumably not the Al Green we know and love). The choir also featured Joseph and Phyllis Joubert. This seven track vinyl release from 1982 certainly shows that the choir know how to groove. The opening title cut is an absolute four to the floor gospel groover and is the album's standout cut. NYCC also get funky on "Steal Away" and "Let It Shine" but it's the closer "Never Turn Back" which allows the whole choir to let loose and "Ode To The Sun" sounds like something Andrae Crouch and The Disciples might have recorded. Overall this is a strong slice of early '80s gospel and shows how choir sounds were developing.
