In amongst all the Christmas muzak we're exposed to it is easy to forget that Christmas music can-and should-be a spiritual and worshipful reminder of the real meaning of Christmas. The latest compilation in the WOW series is the first holiday offering since 'WOW Christmas (Green)' six years ago and includes many new songs or recent recordings. It does not disappoint, offering an eclectic mix of rearranged carols, contemporary Christmas worship songs and the occasional surprise arrangement ("Last Christmas" by Britt Nicole being an interesting and slightly odd choice). The tone and style, as you would expect, is varied, but there is something here for everyone. Highlights include Chris Tomlin's "Emmanuel", "O Holy Night" by Kerrie Roberts and "Mary Did You Know" by Kutless. However, it is Matt Maher's new version of "Hark The Herald"' which sums up this album; a fresh rearrangement of the much-recorded carol, bringing the listener firmly into a place of worship, celebration and joy.
