Take a group of four Mexican deathcore musicians and throw in a few hardcore elements and you are left with an aggressive outfit who at times sound a bit like Impending Doom. On this their second EP we are not left waiting to be introduced to their brand of ramped up brutality and crushing riffs. From the get go we are faced with a speed driven wall of sound as muddy vocals wallow and rasp in guttural fashion throughout. My Place Was Taken build a menacing and aggressive atmosphere through the use of regular breakdowns. Although my Spanish is not good, I could make out some of the lyrics which were uncompromising statements of faith. "Cordero Y Leon" (Lion and Lamb) which includes some throbbing, muted guitars is played with less speed, but no less intensity whereas "Guerra Interna" (Internal War) is delivered with rapid fire precision and rolls seamlessly into the pounding riffs of "Sociadad Demente". Technically the music is drum skin tight and each track is sufficiently varied to stand up on its own. I hope, however, that if this outfit produce a full length recording they can inject a little more light and shade to proceedings. Changes in rhythm and dynamic at present are reliant too heavily on an abundance of breakdowns. This makes the package as a whole seem a little one dimensional, but does do enough to demonstrate much potential for the future.
