Based in Maine and playing live around the New England states for the past couple of years has clearly helped American band Mustard hone their energetic brand of alternative rock. Interpolating acoustic and electric styles, the band manage to rock out but also soften it up enough to create reflective moments along the way. The seven songs range from an acoustic driven "This Light" through the unrelenting catchi-ness of the excellent "Eleanor Airway" to the more jangly "Your Father Wants You Back". There's a brilliant updating of Barry McGuire's "Eve Of Destruction" to kick things off; a punchy "The Real Thing" that again raises the energy levels of the CD; and the closer "Long Road Home" ensures that everything finishes on a high note. An effective calling card of a debut release with lyrics that deal with real issues without being too obvious, this CD, errr, ahem, cuts the Mustard!
