Texan duo Trent Monk and Michael Neagle's debut disc was released on an independent imprint in 2004. However, their second release steps up a level to Reunion/Provident - a part of the massive Sony/BMG organisation. One can understand the major label conviction since the acoustic pop sound on the record has all the right ingredients for commercial success. The opening track draws the listener in with a loping summer-on-the-beach Jack Johnson vibe. Stylistically the rest of the songs should also curry favour with CCM fans. Comparisons have been drawn with Bebo Norman but also think of a Casting Crowns or Third Day acoustic interlude and you're in the right ballpark. Just as impressive as the slick performance with its syrupy harmony vocals is the quality of songwriting. Without becoming trite or preachy, the title track challenges us to be Jesus to the world and to love the unlovely. "What Soldiers Do" imagines a Marine talking to his son before he goes off to war. A powerful and emotional composition which resonates with the times. The other standout track is "Hallelujah, Jesus" - a modern worship classic in the making; a simple but profound song of adoration to the Holy One. On the evidence of the songs here it's clear that Monk and Neagle be two names to watch.
