Slowly but surely the contemporary Church seems to be rediscovering the glories of the old hymns but often to get to those theologically-rich words we have to put up with some rather dreary melodies which haven't stood the test of time. If that's your perspective you'll love this new compilation offering as it does new melodies to "Before The Throne Of God Above", "Jesus My King My Wonderful Saviour", "My God How Wonderful You Are" and "Love Divine All Loves Excelling". If that wasn't enough you've also got a batch of contemporary hymns from such songwriters as Stuart Townend and Robert Critchley. The performances here by Paul Oakley, Andy Bromley, Lou Fellingham, Stuart Townend, Godfrey Birtill and Brenton Brown are, in the main, excellent with inventive arrangements and good sound. If you are looking for a way of engaging your youth group with hymnody, this is a great place to start.
