It is over a decade since the Democratic Republic of Congo's Michaux Nocka released his last album. His return to the recording studio has seen the release of a four-song EP highlighting the exuberance of the expression of worship in his speciality Soukous genre of dance music from the Congo basin. Michaux takes on the role of worship leader exhorting people to praise while the upbeat celebrations are in full swing with intricate guitar rhythms and blaring trumpets. There is no let-up in the party praise in the title track or on "Na Bomoyi Nanga" while "Yesu Yozali" starts off in a more reflective mood with an engaging female vocalist sharing centre stage before the tempo is cranked up again. "En Verite" rounds off the worship experience with over 10 minutes of gusto and energy. If you want to explore worship that doesn't fit the western mould this isn't a bad place to start.
