The website of Oregon-based Michael talks of his interest in the hymns he learnt in Sunday school and his desire to re-present them to today's audiences in a modern style. On this mini-album we are presented with seven updated hymns under the expert production of Billy Smiley (Newsboys, Margaret Becker). The opener "Christ The Solid Rock" features a driving rock beat and the sublime vocals of guest Christine Dente (Out Of The Grey). Other hymns include "Take My Life", "How Marvellous", the rocky "Open My Eyes" featuring Smiley's one time White Heart bandmate Rick Florian, and Michael's own rendition of "I Surrender All". The track I enjoyed the most, "I Am The Lord (Be Still)", is a beautiful, no frills arrangement with lyrics which speak direct to the listener. This outstanding mini-album does indeed offer timeless music to a new generation.
