When it comes to honest songwriting and wearing your emotions on your sleeve, then the '90s albums from Michael McDermott are the place to find both qualities. Released in 1993, this is his third album and draws comparisons to Bruce Springsteen both in the lyrical depth and outright passion of delivery. Mixing roots and rock together into an inspiring massive sound, the production sounds a little dated in the 21st century but this is a fine collection of songs recorded before he became a Christian. He does a good line in throbbing angst on songs like "Leave It Up To The Angels" and "Eden" and "Just West Of Eden". Favourites for me are "Need Some Surrender" and the beautiful moving ballad "Lantern".
