This two CD set contains one set of songs originally released in 1989 (‘Sleep Sound In Jesus’) and a second set (‘Come To The Cradle’) issued in 2003. For Michael Card, lullabies are for babies, but also to enrich the lives of parents and grandparents. The lullabies are beautifully sung to a variety of instrumental accompaniment, with both male and female vocal taking the lead. Most of the songs had several verses, which seemed to make the songs too complicated - my own memory of the lullabies that we loved when our own children were small were of short, simple songs repeated a few times. To my ears it seemed very ‘70s in style (a la Don Francisco and John Denver) which didn’t work for me - I was hoping for something more timeless.
