Matt Weeks is a busy guy. Apart from being bass player of choice for worship leaders like Redman, Layzelle and Hughes, he's also been working in Cathy Burton's backing band, producing the occasional project for others and now releasing his own music. Allowing his own musical personality to shine forth, Matt's music is difficult to categorise because he draws on so many influences and seems to be enjoying the freedom to be creative. The whole album is packed with delights and my favourites are the two very different versions of the title cut, both of which exude vibe! I also love the jazzy, blissed out feel on "I Am Not Alone" and the lyrically clever "Places We Meet". The jazz continues on the excellent "Lotus Domino" where the track is propelled along by his melodic bass, guitar playing and some driving horns. Playing a lot of the instruments himself and exhibiting a soulful vocal style, this is very much Matt's album and surely it's time that his talents are more widely recognised. Creative and spiritual, 'Day For Grace' is a delightful album.
