Exeter student Martyn Lufkin presents the world with a debut self-produced CD of worship songs in a Matt Redman/Soul Survivor style. And that's part of the problem because so much of this sounds derivative. There's plenty of jangly guitar and a bit of support from what sounds to be the CD worship band filling out the gaps. To give him credit, he has occasionally attempted to make it interesting but unfortunately there is little that can compensate for the woefully muggy sound. The floating "Waiting For The Son" and the happy clappy "Everybody Loves You Lord" represent two ends of the spectrum with plenty of jangly pop rock in between. The songs themselves show some potential and Martyn has done well to get these recorded and out there. But out of tune guitars and the weakness of Martyn's voice combined with the feeling that I have that he has simply listened to too many Matt Redman albums leaves this as a pale listening experience. Plenty of work to be done before he records again but this album has got to act as a learning experience for the future.
