With some of the proceeds of this album going to US police officer Donna Boswell who was seriously injured in a car accident, it is obvious that Virginian gospel artist Marnell Tanner has a big heart. He also has a big voice - complete with a vibrato as wide as the Hoover Dam - and a good ear for stirring songs. Old chestnuts like "Blessed Assurance" and Malotte's reading of "The Lord's Prayer" are treated with respect as well as some big production by the man himself. Elsewhere, spiritual comment is offered on social issues such as race in "The Difference Makes The Difference" (one of four songs by friend and senator Orrin G Hatch) and despair for his country in "I'm Goin' To Pray For This Land". It could be argued that we don't need more versions of "Amazing Grace" and the now worn-out "You Raise Me Up" but Marnell nonetheless brings his trademark passion, sincerity and considerable vocal power to each offering. Newcomer Diana Cammarata takes centre stage in the gentle song of devotion "Imagine Me Without You" to add some variety to the proceedings in what is a pleasing second album from the baritone with the big heart.
