For the last few years Lurine has been making a name for herself in gospel circles with a voice which is very much in demand to add some melody on hip-hop tracks. In a live setting Lurine's range has astonished listeners and now at long, long last after many delays she has released her debut full-length album. 'Chosen To Serve' showcases her skills in many different styles. From the dance poppy "Power" and "Shemotion" through to the brilliant groove of "Running For A Train" which is a real live crowd pleaser, there are so many winners on this album! There are plenty of timely messages in the songs and standouts include the hip-hop vibe of "Pressure" and a couple of fantastic stirring gospel ballads towards the end of the album which, like the best gospel music, tug at the emotions. "Mother's Prayer" recognises the challenges and yet chooses to trust God in the midst of the knowledge that a praying mother can make such a difference. "Chosen To Serve" is an eight minute slow burner and will no doubt have many in churches wanting to do their own cover version! It's a testament to the strength of Cato's recent songwriting that the previously feted single "You Revive Me" has been remade but left way down on the batting order. Listening to this, it sounds like a future MOBO winner to me!
